On 6 August 2026, it will be exactly 50 years since ABBA released Dancing Queen as a single in the UK.
To mark this special anniversary, next week’s 70’s Sunday Lunch will celebrate one of the most famous and enduring pop songs of all time.
We will tell the story of Dancing Queen, beginning with its composition and recording in 1975. Through archive recordings, you will also hear from members of ABBA themselves as they reflect on the song, their extraordinary rise to fame and the demands of their increasingly busy touring schedule.
We will explore the Arrival album and hear some of its best-loved tracks, together with the stories behind them. We will also travel back to September 1976 to revisit some of the other records in the British charts when Dancing Queen reached number one.
All four of our regular games will have an ABBA theme, so there will be plenty of opportunities to test your knowledge of Agnetha, Björn, Benny and Frida.
Of course, 70’s Sunday Lunch is about much more than music. Each week, we also remember the television programmes, personalities and memorable events of the decade. For this special edition, we will turn the clock back to 1976.
